EVALUATION: Question Six

Question Six: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Digital Camera: I have learnt to use a camera at an improved level as I rarely have used a camera and Now, I have learnt the functions and settings on the camera. I learnt about shutter times and lighting levels, how useful camera lens are such as UV filters and what difference they can make... The Digital camera has helped me understand more and gain an interest in cameras and I believe that what I have learnt will definitely be useful in the future.

Internet: I have learnt to detect what are good and what are bad websites for getting information from. I have also learnt how to use forums to further my own goals as I posted on multiple Euro-dance Forums my survey and asked people to fill the survey in. If I remember correctly, there were about 112 or so people who filled it in and I did a survey with at least 100 of those people. I also used the internet to find good information to help with my research.
Microsoft Word: I have learnt how to improve the layout of any word document and how to efficiently use it to create pictures when no other programs are available. I created all of Picture Flat-plans in Microsoft word which turned out successful and I have used work to plan everything throughout the entire project from beginning to end and to take down notes.
Microsoft Excel: I have learnt/ Re-learnt how to create graphs and statistics. I have used the software before but unfortunately, without using the programme for such a long time, the skills fade away and thus I couldn’t remember how to do a thing so I have had to re-teach myself.  I can now create graphs, How to multiply numbers and create statistics. This helped me when calculating my facts and Survey results.

Microsoft PowerPoint: I have learnt to improve the quality of slideshows and how to link slideshows to the internet by using a website called ‘Slideshare’. I also learnt how to use templates to a degree and now I always use a certain template. I have used PowerPoint for my Evalution: Question One, Style Sheet and others to such a degree that my skills have no doubt improved.

Photoshop CS3/ CS4: I have learnt to manipulate and improve images through the means of editing with the tools such as the eraser, Shape tool, Blue tool and colour tool and also with rendering and filtering. This allowed me to improve the quality of the images that I took pictures of and The shape tool to create the Other pictures which were included in my magazine (Example: Eating Pyrite, Brit Awards, Galactic Party...) And Has given me the necessary skills to make things for any other projects that I may begin work on.

Overall: I have improved in many areas But with technology overall, I have improved my metal knowledge on technology and I have improved  on almost all aspects of technology ranging from Input Devices to Image manipulating Programmes and Presentation and word processors for information.

EVALUATION: Question Five

Question Five: How did you attract/ address your audience?

I addressed my audience as if they were a close friend. By this, I mean that I always mentioned them and directly addressed them in a polite way such as ‘This is Jackson from the Lord’s Of Paradise and I what I would like to say is welcome!’ By being polite and seemingly getting personal with the audience, they will fell like they are part of a wider community and hopefully, would either subscribe and become a regular reader of the magazine or at least buy the magazine to see if their is anything in particular that they are interested in.

I attracted my audience by also promoting my own values and by doing this, I can get people to agree with  my own views and people most of the time side with people who have the same outlook on things as them. Another way that I attracted my audience was by referencing them all the time and making the text seem to be that of an advertisement ‘‘Do you want to know the Latest Items out there? If so then shop here!’

EVALUATION: Question Four

Question Four: Who would be the audience of your media product?

The audience of any magazine would look for a magazine for the following purposes:

Entertainment: One reason in which people buy magazines is that of entertainment. People are always seeking out entertainment no matter what form it may be in, some turning to vandalism, others playing video games but a lot of people turn to music magazines. These people will read my magazine because I have included other media’s in my product mentioning popular entertainment values such as festivals and even the event ‘The Brit awards’ which should draw them in and buy my magazine to find out about these entertainments and not to entertain themselves by reading my product while sitting on the toilet only reading the magazine because their is nothing else to at the time.

Personal Identity: People are always looking for a role model, someone who they can look up to, someone they can follow and that is a reason that people buy magazines such as my product. The style of magazine/ type of music can determine the people who buy a media product but it most shows the attitude of the audience, in my magazine’s case being people who are intelligent and artistic (dancing, drawing, writing etc). Another reason in which people read magazine is to check new styles and guides for anything that might suite their taste in either fashion or music, these people would be included in my audience as on the contents page I included an article on how to be a success within euro-dance and included the names of many artists on the front of my magazine which should draw in the swarms of fans who whish to check up on their personal heroes.

Information: People seem to seek out knowledge by nature, out of curiosity and this is what part of the audience of my magazine, people who want knowledge. People will always want to know the latest gossip/information on the newest and most popular bands out there as well as Tour dates and locations, Band information and interviews and even reviews about albums. These people will be part of the audience of my magazine because of the articles included. Naturally, these ‘Knowledge-seekers’ will look in magazines but on my Front cover, I have mentioned an interview with a popular band and thus hopefully attract these people like locust searching for crops.

Social Integration: People look to magazines for information about their social group,  for many reasons. One reason is that of belonging. People can look into magazines to feel a sense of belonging as the audience of a magazine will most likely be just that that particular individual. This means that they will gain all the latest information about their favourite artists and learn more about their own sub-Group Identity and learn all the insider information that they want to know. These people will be attracted to my magazine because I have included the mentioning’s of festivals and the Artists mentioned which perform what the fans would call their livelihood.

EVALUATION: Question Three

Question three: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Groups:                IPC Media
-                                                  NME
-                                                  Guitar and bass
                                Bauer Media
-                                                  Q Magazine
-                                                  Mojo
-                                                  Kerrang

                                  BBC
-                                                  Classical  Music magazine
-                                                  Top of the Pops
-                                                  It’s Hot
IPC Media: IPC Media is one of the United Kingdom’s leading consumer magazine and digital publishers, with a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year.IPC Media groups under five magazine divisions: Connect (Women Weekly’s (Now Magazine and Look)), Inspire (Leisure and Specialist), Ignite! (Men’s lifestyle and entertainment), Southbank (Women’s lifestyle and home interests) and TX (Portfolio of Television titles). In addition, there is Marketforce, the UK’s leading magazine distribution business. Digitally there is WOTV and Goodtoknow.

Bauer Media: Bauer Media is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg, which operates in 15 countries worldwide. Since the company was founded in 1875, it has been privately-owned and under management by the Bauer family. It was formerly called Heinrich Bauer Verlag KG which was abbreviated to HBV and usually shortened down to H. Bauer. The Three magazines which they publish are Q magazine, Kerrang and Mojo, all of which have been stated as being for a male audience.

BBC Magazine: BBC magazine is the magazine publishing arm of the BBC worldwide. BBC provides a varied and wide range of magazines that target many different audiences. They focus their magazines on music, gardening, children’s popular TV programmes, cooking, cars and astrology. The music magazines that the BBC has published include: Its Hot - Top of The Pops - Classical Music Magazine. The BBC publishes many different genres of magazines as well as major websites through their digital channels as well.

Choice:  I believe that the best media institution to publish my media product would have to be IPC Media because Bauer Media is based in Germany and works in multiple countries which is Un-necessary as my Product it Designed for a British Audience only, There magazines also being aimed towards Men whereas my media product is deigned for both male and females. Second of all, BBC Have too many Magazines being distributed and their magazines are POP magazines so there is no Gap in their market. IPC Media is the best choice because it has a Gap in the market, it is a successful institution and it is one of the United Kingdom’s leading consumer magazine and digital publishers.

EVALUATION: Question Two

Question Two: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Age: The age group which my magazine would represent would be individuals between the ages of 13 and 30 and to show this, It uses Pictures of a young audience and the artists all released their songs and became popular during the 1990’s and the year 2000 onwards so this selected audience would be old enough to remember when the songs were released.

Gender: The gender would mostly be males but represents a split audience of at least 85% males and 15% females. The reasons behind  this is because the images in the product display male artists such as ‘DJ Gladwin’ and the ‘Lord’s Of Paradise’ but the magazine mentions female artists such as Lady Gaga which are usually recognised to have a female audience. Another reason is that Euro-Dance generally leans towards a male audience whereas Euro-pop/ POP music leans towards a female audience with there being more boy-bands and solo female artists singing about love which overall leans towards a female audience.
Ethnicity: The ethnicity that my media product represents would be that of a white audience. The reasons to show this are that the Artists mentioned are mostly of European status such as GiGi-Agostino and Daddy DJ. Another reason is that the images of the artists used as no artist that has been mentioned has been of any other ethnicity other than white and because most of euro-dances most popular artists come from Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and the United kingdom, all countries which are seen as mostly having a white ethnicity.

Class: the class that my media product would represent would be of working class to middle class as The clothing worn in the images are expensive-looking clothing but the music itself is aimed at working class people. The genre of euro-dance is listened to by many people without them even realising it as euro-dance is a sub-genre of Pop and many popular artists today such as the Italobrothers, Eiffel 65 and Scatman John. Each of these artist’s songs are loved by many working class despite wearing items that would be only affordable by higher earning people such as middle class.
